Adding Bright & Vivid Colors to Your Candles

Pigments & Dyes Dosage and Usage Information

Solid Coloring Dosage - Oil-Soluble Dyes

0.1% to 0.2% by weight of wax formulation (between 1 and 2 grams per kilogram - between .5 grams (.018 oz) and 1 gram (.035 oz) per pound of wax). One pound of dye flakes will color approximately 700 to 1000 lbs of paraffin. Always add the same quantity of color to your wax formulation for color consistency.

Some wax blends will require a higher dosage of color due to the opacity of the wax blend. The shade of color attained with each dye will change in different wax blends. Additives such as micro wax, PE, Vybar, and stearin can affect the strength and shade of the color. Fragrances may react with the dye and can change the properties and the appearance of colors. The color of the fragrance may affect the dye’s shade of color.

For best results, use wax melters and batch tanks with indirect heating. Direct heating will deteriorate wax and destroy dyes. Temperatures that are too high and maintaining the wax formulation at high temperatures for extended lengths of time can result in color deviations.

Overdipping Dosage - Pigments

1 dip: 1.5% by weight of the wax formulation

2 dips: 1% by weight of the wax formulation

Always add the same amount of color to your dipping wax for color consistency. Use a scale to weigh the components of your dipping formulation. Always dip candles at the same temperature. Temperature variations will result in color deviations. Too hot a dipping wax will make the shade of color on the candle appear lighter. Too cold a dipping wax will make the shade of color on the candle appear darker. Any variations in the over-dipping wax may change the color of your finished candle.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO MIX WELL TO DISPERSE THE PIGMENTS UNIFORMLY.
